Trauma happens when an incoming experience is too much to handle and the psyche is unable to integrate the event in a manageable way. It’s like a part of us just cant process what is happening - there is a disconnection, a shattering, a splintering of the self in an attempt to manage reality and not go crazy. When the psyche splits or leaves the body in response to trauma, this is a protective device, like a safety valve. It’s a short term survival mechanism to help us focus on the need to fight, flee, or hide in the moment. Survival first, emotional processing later. The sessions of this course will walk you through the gentle process of finding, healing and restoring these wounded or disconnected self parts. This is NOT about re-experiencing trauma, you already lived through it once. This is about creating a safe, grounded, compassionate place, within yourself—and bringing the traumatized parts back to wholeness and into present time where they can be loved and cared for in the way they always needed.

Mind, Body & Spirit Medicine

10-Day Course Overview

  • Day 1/ Understanding Trauma & Soul Retrieval

Learn about this unique perspective on trauma and an overview of the healing work we will do in the next nine sessions, followed by a short grounding meditation to connect with our own best adult self.

  • Day 2/ Journey To The Spirit Of Nature

Our first inner journey, or guided visualization, to connect with the peace and power available through the spirit of nature. This is a deeply healing experience and the place we will bring the traumatized parts of the self in future days. We are children of nature, and this is an spect of our true home.

  • Day 3/ Connecting With Elements For Power & Healing

We return to the safe and sacred place in nature that we discovered on Day 2 and connect with an element for wisdom, healing and empowerment. In this work, all things hold consciousness, even things we usually consider inanimate, like water, earth, sun, tree, rocks or wind. Connecting with the higher consciousness of elements in a direct and visceral way is profoundly grounding and healing. These ancient resources provide support, guidance and unconditional acceptance as we grow in the skills and abilities to be our own healthy caregiver.

  • Day 4/ Spirit Guide In Animal Form

We return to the safe place in nature to add to our resources for power and healing by connecting with a spirit guide in animal form, also known as a power animal. This is an ancient Shamanic practice for gathering wisdom, knowledge and healing that is profound and transformative. The form of the power animal is a teaching.

  • Day 5/ Soul Retrieval

We connect more deeply with our spiritual guides as we step across historic or psychological time to find and rescue the traumatized part of ourself that most needs help and healing right now. Together we will bring this wounded part of ourself into present time, to the safe place in nature we discovered on Day 3. This is NOT about re-experiencing trauma. This is about getting the wounded part of ourself out of trauma and into the peace and compassion of the spirit of nature in present time. They are cared for, healed and supported by the element we connected with in day 3 and the spirit guide in animal form.

  • Day 6/ Teacher In Human Form

We add to our inner resources for wisdom, power and guidance by finding a spirit guide or teacher in human form. This compassionate being comes with us to deepen our relationship and healing with the part of ourself that was traumatized . All self parts hold vital life energy. We will notice what is good about this now, healing part of ourself and see if they want to remain with the spirit of nature in non-ordinary reality, or if they want to return with us into our life today.

  • Day 7/ Healing Our Relationship With Self

We look at our relationship with the wounded parts of ourselves. We foster a healthy internal relationship and discover that how we treat ourselves internally has profound implications for our life experience and our recovery. With the support of our guides and teachers, our own best adult self is now their healthy caregiver and they are safe in present time with the continued support of our connection with the spirit of nature.

  • Day 8/ Deeper Healing: Releasing & Receiving

We deepen our healing experience by bringing the now healing part of ourselves to the spirit of nature and ask the guides to assidt them in releasing any emotions, beliefs, thought patterns or other energy formations that they have carried as the result of trauma. All aspects of nature are masters of energetic transformation and this part of ourself can release anything that no longer serves them and make room to receive the love, healing, compassion and life energy that they need right now.

  • Day 9/ Power Retrieval & Exchange

In this work, life force or personal power has a form and substance. Our spirit guides will facilitate the profound process of taking back, or receiving, any life energy that was lost, drained or stolen during the traumatic experience. We will also release anything we have taken on - consciously or unconsciously. This is a safe and empowering process with the higher self of a person who has harmed, drained or disempowered us knowingly or unknowingly.

  • Day 10/ Layers Of Trauma Recovery

Congratulations on your inner work. We recap the inner processes we have done and described the value and practical steps to repeat the inner journeys in this course. Trauma is often a complex and multi-layered dynamic. Repeating some or all of the sessions of this course can help to integrate and heal the many parts of the self that may be dissociated, lost or stuck in trauma. Trauma recovery is a rebuilding, restructuring process and we can trust our own psyche for guidance on the order that optimal healing wants to happen.

We combine the ancient healing and wisdom traditions of shamanism, buddhist philosophy, with body-centered mindfulness and the best of western psychology
